Transportation in Polynesia

Inter-island transportation

By plane

Air Tahiti regularly serves 47 islands from Tahiti to the five archipelagos and offers tourist passes that allow you to benefit from advantageous rates to visit several islands: Bora Bora pass, Lagoon pass, etc. To prepare your trip, our tavel consultant will offer you the most advantageous rates by trying as much as possible to make you benefit from these inter-island passes.

Recently, Air Moana has been spreading its wings over the Fenua to serve 6 islands of the Society Archipelago, the Tuamotus and the Marquesas. With its flexible tickets and baggage allowance adapted to your needs, it is the ideal airline for a stay including very few islands.

Air Tahiti

By Boat

The Apetahi Express company connects Tahiti to the Leeward Islands with its new catamaran, which is faster than its predecessor.

Allow 3 hours to travel between Tahiti and Huahine, 1 hour from Huahine to Raiatea, 1 hour from Raiatea to Taha’a and 1 hour from Taha’a to Bora Bora. A half-hour stopover is scheduled on each island for disembarking and embarking new passengers. You will be able to go ashore during the half-hour stopover scheduled on each island. However, we encourage stopover passengers to remain on board the boat to ensure a smooth and rapid shuttle.

Cargo ships also serve the remote islands and the Aranui offers cruises to the Marquesas Islands in particular.

Polynesian island transportation

In Tahiti, buses and taxis are available. Car rental companies are also located at the airport and in downtown Papeete. You can still find a few "trucks" (picturesque wooden-sided trucks converted into buses) in Tahiti, which serve all localities.

In the other islands, transportation is sometimes more complicated... You will find taxis on the most touristy islands (Moorea, Bora Bora...), but a rental car will often be the most practical way to discover the islands on your own.

In some islands, lagoon transport is also available to reach the islets called "motu" where the accommodations are located. This is the case of Bora Bora where the airport is located on a motu.

Transfers

To ensure a peaceful trip, the stays we offer systematically include a welcome and transfers between airports and your accommodations. These transfers are provided by minibus or boat.

For maximum comfort and to avoid any waiting, private transfers are also available on all islands.
