The main post office is located downtown of Papeete, close to the sea front. It’s open during the week from 7am to 6pm and on saturday from 8am to 11am.

You will also find some  post offices all around the island,  as well as in other smaller islands.

Phone and Mobile Devices in the Islands of Tahiti

As of today, there are 2 operators  available : Vini & Vodafone (since 2013)

Both operator use the same GSM 900 Mhz standards and cover around 98% of the population of French Polynesia.

In order to continue using your cell phone during your trip in French Polynesia, make sure that your operator is a partner of Vini.

Internet & Wifi in French Polynesia

Most hotels and some guesthouses offer internet access to their customers, along with post offices and cafés in some islands.
The connection can be free or charge, depending on the establishments.

Internet access in French Polynesia is mainly provided by Vini, a subsidiary of the Office des Postes et Télécommunications, which offers from the classic modem access solutions up to ADSL offers.
For a short stay, it is advised to use a connection without subscription.

Another supplier, Viti, offers a coverage on the island of Tahiti.
The wireless wifi connection remains the most convenient way to stay connected from your laptop or smartphone.

Vini offers a wireless network access called Manaspot. You can get a prepaid card for ViniSpot from OPT agencies or authorized distributors or simply by making a secure online payment on

If the Vinispot network is not available, other wireless networks will allow you to connect to the web!
WiFi wireless access is also available at most OPT locations or in public places covered by ViniSpot.

Eventually, a brand new service was recently established in Polynesia : Tahiti Wifi. Created in order to assist « fresh off the boat » tourists, their Wi-Fi offer provides a great network coverage as well as a high speed connection. You can use is up to 6 hours at a stretch and connect up to 10 devices at a time.

The service is available 24/7 and happens to be 3x faster than a standard connection.
