In a few words

Born and raised in Tahiti, I always thought my life would take place somewhere else. As a child, I dreamed of something bigger, of a life shaped by the vibrant energy of a bustling city. Through the books I read and the poems I secretly wrote, I imagined my ideal life; somewhere between the British and Irish influences that have always fascinated me. In 2019, when I left my island to pursue my studies, I realized how lucky I truly was. For seven years, I traded swimsuits for heavy coats, my fruit-tree garden for a city-center apartment, and my turquoise sea for Brittany’s grey skies. With my camera by my side, I had the chance to discover the beauty Europe has to offer. Yet, it became clear that even though I had left my Polynesian home, it was not ready to let me go. So I came back, my bag filled with experiences, memories, and dreams. But my heart beating only for what truly matters: the priceless happiness of being reunited with my family, at home.

Your ideal stay in French Polynesia?

A visit to Tahiti is a must when traveling to French Polynesia. There, you can explore the Papeete market and meet local artisans, or follow the traces of Polynesian legends by discovering iconic sites such as the Three Waterfalls, the Māra‘a caves, and the Vaihiria Valley. Next, head to Moorea. Along the way, you may encounter rays and blacktip reef sharks, and, if you’re lucky, even spot whales passing through our waters. Moorea is also perfect for hiking, with trails such as the Opunohu Valley crossing, the Three Coconuts Pass, or the ascent of Mount Rotui ; there’s something for everyone. You should also plan two days for a catamaran getaway to the atoll of Tetiaroa, once owned by Marlon Brando. Expect endless ocean views. The atoll is home to Bird Island, a protected nature reserve that is closed to visitors, but you can still walk along the shore while listening to the sound of birds. Finally, make your way to the Marquesas Islands. There, you’ll discover landscapes that seem to come straight out of Paul Gauguin’s paintings. Authenticity, raw nature, and horses running free across the horizon ; the Marquesas embody the very roots of Polynesian culture.

Your favorite place in French Polynesia?

Tubuai is the first place that comes to mind. It is my grandmother’s island. There, I was able to bring to life all the stories she told me when I was a child. This island blends calm, serenity, and a unique energy that carried me during my stay.

Your favorite restaurant?

I may not be completely objective, but I would definitely recommend a restaurant in downtown Papeete called Botanica. It offers a true culinary journey to the heart of Italy. The food is delicious, and the cocktails are even better!
