In the 70’s, the navigator, Bernard Moitessier, stayed there to become integrated into the peaceful Paumotu way of life. During the trade wind season, Ahe becomes a mythical stopping point for sailboats coming from the Marquesas.

Preserved by the local population careful about protecting their natural surroundings, the Motu Manu (Bird Island) shelters a simplistic forest, populated by a large variety of sea birds. The Ahe atoll is a great stop over point off the beaten paths of tourists and just perfect for nature lovers.
